Though similar in many ways, a cosmetic tattoo artist and a traditional tattoo artist differ in many ways. Not only do they use different equipment and application techniques but their goals and responsibilities differ, each seeking a different final outcome for their clients.
To clear all of the confusion, we’ve written an article about it! In what follows, we’ll be defining what a cosmetic tattoo artist is, what they do, how much they make, and how they differ from traditional tattoo artists.
Often referred to as permanent makeup, cosmetic tattooing is a technique used to produce a permanent or semipermanent makeup look, typically on the eyebrows, eyeliner, lips, or hairline. As such, a cosmetic tattoo artist is the professional responsible for the execution of such a technique.
Often certified in their techniques, inclusive of a health & safety certification so that their clients feel safe and secure to proceed with treatment, cosmetic tattoo artists are often not only talented but also educated and experienced.
As you can imagine, there’s very little room for error, so these credentials are a must, both for the artist and the client…
Contrary to a traditional tattoo artist whose primary aim is to, in some way, modify the skin’s appearance, the primary goal and responsibility of a cosmetic tattoo artist is to produce a natural look that can be easily mistaken for regular makeup.
Obviously stated, this is an extremely difficult and tedious task, both for the artist applying the pigment and the client who’s sitting for hours in the process.
Because of the pressure and high stakes of this profession, and due to the specialization, in particular, cosmetic tattoo artists tend to make anywhere from $65,000-$100,000+ annually.
These numbers, of course, vary from artist to artist and highly depend on the type of procedure(s) the artist specialises in.
Although there are several types of cosmetic tattooing techniques, the following are some of the most common:
Contrary to the controversial perspective of the tattoo industry at large, cosmetic tattoo artists are quickly gaining respect for their sometimes heroic efforts in changing the appearance and thus confidence of their clients.
Not only is it a potentially lucrative career path but a rewarding one, as well…
