Top Three Disability Support Worker Job Interview Questions & Answer Examples

Why Do You Want To Become A Disability Support Worker?

Possible answer:

I’ve always enjoyed helping others. Being able to make a positive impact on others’ lives brings me joy. I have a lot of experience in helping people, I have good work ethics and I also have to ability to follow regulations and procedures.

During my past experiences, both professionally and personally, I’ve always made a point to support people as much as I can which I think is critical when working as a disability support worker. My goal is to show people they can regain control of their lives, step-by-step, and help them feel better about themselves.

Tip: focus on the skills, qualities and experiences you have that are relevant to the job and show that you’ll be a competent disability support worker.

Why Do You Want To Work For Our Organisation?

Possible answer:

Two of the most important things to me when choosing the organisation I want to work for are the values and the care standards. It’s important for me to work for an organisation that shares the same value system as me and places the wellbeing of their employees and clients first.

When I researched your company, I noticed that the code of conduct you expect staff to adhere to and the care standards you abide by are outstanding. This prompted me to apply for the job as I feel like my standards and code of conduct closely align with your yours.

Tip: make sure to do your due diligence and research each organisation you’re applying for. Highlight the key things you like about the organisation such as specific programs or initiatives. Be familiar with the range of services they provide, the locations they service, and the missions and values they promote and use the information you’ve collected to show that you’ve done your research.

How Would You Prioritise Your Workload?

I know that as a disability support worker, I’ll be looking after a lot of patients & clients. Just like I’ve done in my previous positions, I would approach things in a fair and consistent way.

The first step would be to assess everything that needs to be done in the morning and list tasks by order of priority based on urgency or deadlines. My work would also be prioritised according to your procedures, the regulations, and my training. Of course, unexpected events can always arise in this line of work and I would always limit the number of tasks I’m focusing on each day in case something unexpected arises. I’m confident I can adapt to the ever-changing demands of the disability support worker’s role.

If your company has any specific methods, or if you could offer me some advice, I'd always be open to trying that out and implementing it.

Tip: explain how you would schedule your day, how you set deadlines and how you shift between priorities. You can also ask the company / interviewer for some tips - this will show that you're receptive to advice and aren't stuck in your own ways.
