How Much To Charge Your Clients For Your Office Cleaning Services?

You’ve set up your commercial cleaning business, have gone through all the necessary steps and are ready to deliver your services.

Congratulations!

Cleaning offices can be a rewarding and profitable career, and after two years of living through a pandemic, the demand for cleaning and sanitisation services has never been higher.

But for your business to be successful, you need to price your services right. Charge too little, and your services might be perceived as low quality. Charge too high, and your competition will swoop in and take your customers.

Tricky right?

That’s why, to help you define the perfect pricing strategy for your office cleaning services, we’ve put together this short post.

Charging By The Hour For Office Cleaning Services

As a rule of thumb, hourly package rates range from $30 to $50 for standard office cleaning.

However, the hourly rate you can charge your clients depends on several factors, including your locale and the current demand for your services. Some of the other factors you’ll need to take into consideration to decide on the most appropriate pricing include:

The Level Of Cleaning Required

A deep clean, including comprehensive sanitisation, cleaning light fixtures and refilling office supplies will take longer than simply dusting and vacuuming.

The Size Of The Space

The larger the space, the more cleaners or time you’ll need to clean it.

The Frequency Of Cleaning

If you’re working for the same businesses every week, it makes sense to offer a discounted rate as a commercial gesture. Discounts can go up to 50% based on a monthly retainer model. However, if a client hires you as a one-off, you should charge your full price.

Extras

While typical packages include dusting, cleaning surfaces in bathrooms and kitchens, disinfecting, refilling supplies, emptying bins, vacuuming and mopping, you might need to charge extras for specific services such as pressure washing and refrigerator, blind or oven cleaning.

Pricing Per State

Here are some basic prices per state for standard office cleaning:

  • NSW: the hourly rate in NSW sits at around $35. The price usually includes dusting furniture and decorative pieces, emptying bins, refilling supplies, vacuuming and mopping, disinfecting door handles and desks.
  • Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, and Western Australia: you can expect to charge $30 an hour for commercial cleaning services in these states.
  • ACT: according to Hipages, ACT commands the highest rate with $37.50 an hour on average.

Charging Per Square Foot

While the above prices apply to smaller spaces, large spaces will be quoted differently as you’ll need more products and personnel to cover the area. In that case, many cleaning businesses charge according to the square footage.

The rate varies between $0.3 to $0.7 per square foot. There again, the cost will depend on the complexity of the job, the size of the premises and the level of cleaning required.

Note that one cleaner can usually clean between 2,000 and 3,000 square feet if it involves standard cleaning services.

Have You Insured Your Office Cleaning Business?

Now that you’re ready to promote your services and are confident in your pricing strategy, don’t forget to get business insurance.

Cleaning offices can be risky as you might inadvertently damage one of your client’s properties while using the wrong product or, worse, injure them by leaving something wet and causing them to slip. And that’s what public liability insurance is there for.
